At ISCD, we’re lucky to have trainers who don’t just teach design, they live and breathe it. One of those inspiring educators is Annika, who brings years of creative experience and a passion for designing spaces that evoke emotion and engage the senses.
With a journey that spans hairdressing, home renovation, and interior design, Annika’s story is one of constant growth and reinvention. As she prepares to co-host our upcoming ISCD webinar with photographer Kate Hansen, we sat down with her to learn more about her journey, inspirations, and what she’s most excited to share.
How long have you been a trainer at ISCD and a working interior designer?
Annika: “ I have been a trainer at ISCD for 3 years online, and I was a face-to-face trainer when it was on campus. I have been a teacher since 2005, where I started out as a hairdressing teacher.”
Before pursuing a career in interior design, Annika spent 20 years as a hairdresser, working in a field that demands creativity and an eye for detail. It was through renovating two homes that she discovered her passion for interior spaces.
“I have always been in a creative field and have been lucky enough to have had many great experiences. After 20 years in hairdressing and renovating my own homes, I decided it was time once again to challenge myself and enter into the interior design industry.”
Her transition into interior design was driven by a deep appreciation for how spaces can evoke emotion and engage the senses.
“I had always had a passion for how spaces could evoke various feelings and the senses.”
What’s your favourite design trend right now?
Annika: “I really enjoy design today because, like fashion, there are so many varying styles.”
Annika loves the versatility and diversity in today’s design landscape. From bold colours to minimalistic elegance, she appreciates how designers are pushing boundaries and creating spaces that truly reflect individuality.
“We’re seeing beautiful materials being used in innovative ways, and sustainability is becoming a priority, which is fantastic. I love that design is no longer about following rules but about expressing personality and values.”
If you could work anywhere in the world for a day, where would it be?
Annika: “Great question, but I really can’t choose just one! My initial list would be Milan, Tokyo, Paris, Denmark, Marrakech, Palm Springs, Brazil… I’d be very grateful to visit and immerse myself in any of these places.”
Annika’s love for travel and culture fuels her creativity, and she dreams of exploring the iconic design scenes of the world. From the sophistication of Milan to the vibrancy of Marrakech, each destination offers a unique blend of history, art, and style.
Annika: “I enjoy relaxing at home, spending time with family and friends, being in nature, and exploring galleries.”
What are you most excited to share or discuss in the upcoming webinar?
Annika: “I am happy to share the wonderful Kate with you all and allow her to share her insight into the world of interior photography.”
Annika is excited to spotlight Kate Hansen, whose approach to interiors photography beautifully captures the emotion and personality within spaces.
“I think attendees will really enjoy learning from Kate’s perspective. She doesn’t just capture a room—she tells its story. That’s such a powerful way to look at design.”
Whether you’re a student, designer, or creative enthusiast, this webinar offers a unique opportunity to learn from two talented professionals. Annika’s insights into design freedom and sustainable creativity, paired with Kate’s photography expertise, will inspire you to see interiors in a whole new light.
We can’t wait to see you there!
